UTT has announced that the Caribbean Academy of Fashion and Design (CAFD) will host a week of fashion events to commemorate the University’s tenth anniversary.

In 2008, UTT launched the first tertiary level fashion design programme in the Caribbean. It was based on the philosophy that the development of a student’s individual creativity should always be supported by a strong foundation of techniques and informed thinking, a release from the University said.

The goal of CAFD is to educate and train aspiring designers and managers in the art and business of fashion, with an eye towards developing a Caribbean fashion industry.

The accolades of recent CAFD graduate performances at both local and international fashion events, as well as the increasing number of non-national applicants, is a testament to the stellar leadership and success of the Academy, the release said.

During the last four years, students explored their creativity with many courses that provided the foundation needed for designers. Many successful graduates are now budding entrepreneurs and upcoming international fashion designers.

The CAFD curriculum consists of rigorous classroom teaching, interactive and interdisciplinary work and a balance between visual and liberal studies. CAFD offers a structured programme of learning that is created to promote analytical, critical and conceptual development.

With the talent and dreams of T&T’s future designers and the expertise and vision of CAFD, graduates can and will reach global levels.
