Celebrating 100 years of Jamaica's athletics, former Jamaican Olympians Vilma Charlton and Bert Cameron take part in the Baton Relay marking the opening of the 2010 Championships. Along with Bert and Vilma were current Olympic 100M Women Champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser and hundreds student athletes. On hand to observe was also a visiting delegation of students from high schools in South Africa who received a thunderous welcoming applause. The evening was filled with spirited and entertaining performances by a well choreographed troupe, parachute jumps and favorite local artistes such as Taurus Riley, Chino, Roy Rayon and Etana.
The 2010 meet was officially declared open with competition starting at 8AM on Wednesday March 24th.
