NEW YORK, United States, Tuesday March 28, 2017 – TripAdvisor has identified the top 25 destinations in the entire world, and the Caribbean has taken four of those spots.

Jamaica ranked the highest in the region at 12 on the 2017 Travelers’ Choice list.

Of that island, TripAdvisor said: “Is there anything better than stretching out like a cat in a warm patch of Jamaican sun? Only if you sprinkle your island vacation with a dash of adventure. Known fondly as ‘the land of wood and water’, Jamaica’s forests feature prime hiking and bird watching. History buffs can the heritage sites of Trelawny, while reggae and dancehall fans will love the authentic music clubs of Kingston. Montego Bay is perfect for snorkeling and shopping, while the spas of Ocho Rios can make any stresses melt away.”

Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett said the country was “honoured to have been recognized as one of the top destinations in the world by the TripAdvisor community, not to mention the number one in the Caribbean”.

“We want to thank all of our visitors for choosing Jamaica and we are ready to welcome them back again and again,” he added.

AMBERGRIS CAYE, BELIZE

“Ambergris Caye hovers in a vacation sweet spot: just enough amenities to make it exciting, but not so overdeveloped that you’re tripping over flip-flopped tourists. A mangrove swamp is the eye of this white beach island, the largest in Belize, and golf carts are the main form of transportation along the sandy roads. Reef divers drool over the Belize Barrier Reef and the Blue Hole, a 400-feet deep circle of limestone that teems with angelfish, elkhorn coral, cleaner shrimp and stalactites.”

At number 19 was Saint Maarten/Saint Martin.

“Get the experience of visiting two island colonies in the same 37 square miles. Saint Maarten/Saint Martin’s spicy marriage of Caribbean, French and Dutch cultures matches its physical diversity: the island is both urban and untamed, with rain forest-like landscapes, white beaches, and amazing caves and wildlife,” TripAdvisor wrote.

The last Caribbean destination on the list was Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands at position 22.

STINGRAY CITY IS ONE OF THE BIG ATTRACTIONS IN GRAND CAYMAN.

“The farther you go from Grand Cayman’s busy docks, the more peace and quiet you’ll find. At Stingray City (actually a sandbar), stingrays swim alongside you in the tranquil waters. Closer to town, travelers report finding some of the best massage and spa services anywhere in the Caribbean.”

Award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for hotels, restaurants and attractions in destinations worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period, as well as traveller booking interest on TripAdvisor, it said.
