HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 27 (ACN) The business opportunities portfolio of the Cuban sugar agroindustry will be presented today at the XIV International Congress on sugar cane and derivatives (DIVERSIFICATION 2017).

General Director of ZERUS SA, belonging to the AZCUBA Sugar Group, Francisco Lleó Martín, will offer details on possibilities of investments in the sector, by intervening in the event that brings together 700 delegates from 25 countries in the PABEXPO fairgrounds.

One of the probabilities in this sense is the use of biomass as a source of renewable energy, followed by alcohol, eau de vie and rum, creation of joint ventures for the production and operation of bioelectrical plants, as well as association with sugar mills to create cogeneration plants.

However, engineer Arodis Caballero Núñez, president of the organizing committee of the event that opened on Monday, told ACN that the business portfolio may vary depending on the needs.

He mentioned that Cuba has used its own monies to produce Sorbitol, which is used as a sweetener, expansion of distilleries, rum factories, production of bagasse boards, mechanical production and modernization of the boiler factory.

However, we incorporate foreign investment into our portfolio not only for the value of its financing, but also for new technologies and, above all, the market, said the director of the Cuban Sugar Cane Derivatives Institute.

Other experts from the institution pointed out that the integrated and diversified utilization of sugarcane enhances the possibility of obtaining products that can meet the national and local demands for energy, food and others widely used in agriculture, or with industrial, pharmacists and cosmetics uses.

Likewise, they will also discuss payment systems to sugar cane growers, quality and environmental management, production and value chains, technology management and management, bio stimulants, ripeners, biofertilizers and biopesticides.
