Crazy Fed Up

The lovable lunatic of calypso, Crazy has finally had enough of being denied the National Calypso Monarch title of Trinidad aTobago. He has declared that he is sitting out Carnival 2010, staying away from everything to do with the festival next year, and possibly forever. But don’t get too alarmed, your favorite mad socaman is just making idle threats, and is in fact hoping that his tongue-in-cheek song, For Carnival, will bring him the title he has been longing for throughout his calypso career - or at least let the judges know just what he thinks of them. Say the song’s name really fast and you will understand just where Crazy is coming from. Yup, there he goes again with his unmasked brand of double entendre, which leaves little to the imagination. Already a hit with many steelpan players in Trinidad, For Carnival may be one of the popular selections with the single pan bands for the Panorama competition. “The panmen love the song, which I wrote with them in mind. For years I have been writing songs that go on to become classics, but the judges never seem to recognize the worth of my calypsoes. Every year, I send so much money recording songs and preparing for competition that I could have been a billionaire by now. So I saying, for carnival, I not doing anything,” Crazy said. Look out for more releases from Crazy in the coming weeks, as he puts together his collection for 2010. He is, however, in great demand these days at pre-Christmas events throughout Trinidad and the United States because of his soca-parang single, One For Tito, a tribute to legendary paranderos Tito Lara of the Lara Brothers, who passed away in February this year. Crazy, who 31 years ago recorded the first ever soca-parang, entitled Maria, remembers Lara and the great music he created alongside his brothers for over sixty years through this new reflective, yet festive, song which really does bring a tear to the eye.
