Gargamel Music, Inc. is extremely pleased to announce that Jamaican music icon Buju Banton won his first Grammy award last night for Best Reggae Album for his prophetic new album, Before The Dawn.
Recorded mostly at his own Gargamel Music studio in Kingston, the album boasts some of the most powerful songs written by Banton since entering the music business over twenty years ago. Highlights include "Do Good," "In The Air," "Struggle Together," the potent "Battered & Bruised" and the album's unofficial anthem, "Innocent."
"Winning this Grammy is an honor because it truly shows that my music has transcended a lot of borders and people are now paying attention to what I'm saying in-depth," says Banton, who has been nominated a total of five times. "Music is an art form that cannot be denied by any living soul. Music is life. Many thanks to the Recording Academy for recognizing my work."
The artist recently made his highly anticipated return to the stage at the Before The Dawn Concert at the Bayfront Park Amphitheater in downtown Miami. Banton, who spent most of last year behind bars, gave a sterling two-hour performance of a lifetime. He was joined by Stephen Marley, Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley, Marcia Griffiths,Shaggy, Gramps Morgan, Sean Paul,Wayne Wonder, Freddie McGregor, Nadine Sutherland, DJ Khaled, Mykal Rose, Tarrus Riley, Dean Fraser, Everton Blender, Gyptian and more who came to show their support.
Music lovers around the world who were unable to trek to Miami for the blockbuster Before The Dawn Concert can still see the historic show. Event producers Gargamel Music and Rockers Island have partnered with Webcaster CMX Events to make a Pay Per View/Video On Demand program of the live six-hour-show available online throughout the entire month of February.
Meanwhile, Buju Banton's retrial on outlandish federal drug trafficking charges begins with jury selection this morning in Tampa. A high-powered team of criminal defense attorneys, led by David Oscar Markus of Markus & Markus Law, is representing the Grammy Award winner.
