While the finals of the International Soca Monarch competition attracted a mammoth crowd last Friday, some southerners were feteing for charity. The Naparima College Association of Past Students held their annual Carnival Cooler fete last Friday at the car park of the Naparima Bowl in San Fernando. The $250 per ticket proceeds went toward the less fortunate students of the college.

The venue may not have had the capacity to hold as many patrons as the Hasely Crawford Stadium, but indeed it was packed. Scheduled to perform at the Soca Monarch, Ravi B and Nisha B took the time to perform before many grateful fans. It seemed that the former Chutney Soca Monarch was warming up for his performance at Hasely Crawford Stadium, as he was full of energy. He continued to make amends for his misconduct at last month’s Chutney Soca Monarch competition, as he sang, “the only time I feel love by Naps family is when they forgive me.”

The first $2 million champion of 2011, Rikki Jai, also made a brief appearance rendering his winning song, White Oak and Water. Super Jigga TC performed his 2011 Carnival songs, Speaker Box and Push Back.
The crowd was predominantly past students of the College.
