8 steps to get back on track

Re-acquaint yourself with the purpose of your goal Even if your overriding goal sits at the far end of a long journey, you can sharpen your focus, when you re-acquaint yourself with the purpose behind it. A simple “Why?” may be all you need to stir up your enthusiasm not only for the goal itself but for the work involved in accomplishing it.

Revisit your to-do list
One goal may require several steps to accomplish and a slow pace can cause despair. Select one goal at a time. Dissect it for viability. Explore possible scenarios. Outline the required steps.

Revise your priorities
In your attempt to accomplish certain things, you may have set too many goals or goals that are too high or too complex. Identify your overriding goal. Make sure the plan to achieve it is practical and possible. Put it at the top of your list. Line up your other goals in order of urgency and importance. If some are not viable options now, set them aside for consideration at another time.

Renew your commitment
Painstakingly chugging along with your day-to-day must-do’s can whittle at your earlier commitment to your goals. Is quitting next on your list? Cross it off. Forget it. A trip down memory lane to your goal’s origin will unearth its forgotten importance and motivate you to renew your commitment, despite the hindrances that may be standing in your way.

Refuel your passion
It is possible to be committed but not passionate. Is the initial blazing fire now a silent flicker? No wonder you’ve left the track and dragging your feet. Fan the dying flames. Poke them with visions of the destination you once salivated over, as you daydreamed about your goal. Fill your mind with inspiring stories about people who defied the odds, pursued and achieved their dreams. Passion responds to inspiring thoughts, positive words and proactive steps. Pour on the fuel and you will feel the heat of your passion rising.

Recharge your batteries
When you allow your batteries to run low, your spiritual health nears a critical level, your mind gets clogged with overwhelm and worry, your emotional stability wanes and physical exhaustion leads to ill-health. Halt the downward spiral by re-charging your batteries with physical exercise, relaxation, leisure activities and time to restore your spiritual health. Treat yourself gently; avoid making excuses, cradling guilt and offering unnecessary apologies.

Re-group your cheering section
Just as you get busy, bogged down and bewildered, your supporters may also grow weary from their own life journeys. Calling for a re-group not only signals your commitment but your appreciation of their support. Extend thanks to those who must bow out and embrace those who are willing to get on board again.

Rev your engine
If everything is in place for a journey and you make no move to get up and go, then, what’s the point? Offload the burdens of past missteps, inaction and should have’s. Clear the fog of fear of the unknown. Use your present circumstances as fuel. Rev your engine and ease out onto the road way. The world is filled with start-and-stop stories, unaccomplished goals, failed attempts and broken dreams.
Don’t be one of those stories. Use the above strategy to help you pick up where you left off. It’s time to get back on track.
