FLORIDA, United States, Saturday September 4, 2015 – Tropical Storm Grace has formed in the Atlantic and is expected to strengthen some more before possibly weakening to a remnant low by the time it reaches the Caribbean next week.
Grace formed this afternoon as the seventh named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.
At 5 a.m., it was located at 24.N 43.2W, carrying maximum sustained winds of about 45 miles per hour, and moving towards the west at 13 miles per hour.
“Some additional strengthening is expected during the next day or so, with weakening possible by Monday,” the National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said.
Forecasters say that with an environment of wind shear and dry air ahead, Grace’s future is somewhat uncertain.
But they say it seems likely the storm will eventually start to weaken and could become a remnant low before reaching the Lesser Antilles late in the week.
However, Tropical Storm Grace is still more than five days away from the islands and poses no threat at the moment.
Meantime, Tropical Depression Fred is weakening but still fighting its hostile environment.
Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 35 miles per hour and the NHC says no significant change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours.
