When Dianne John changed her career path a decade ago, she did not know that the world of beauty would actually become a reality. The former banker left her demanding job (which she loved) to follow her childhood dreams to become a professional make-up artist. From the looks of things, Dianne is well on her way to realising her goals.
“I joined what was then The Royal Bank at the tender age of 17 1/2 years. I know in my heart that if my dreams were realised, my life and career would have been totally different, I am sure I would have been a greatly successful Spa Owner or operated a Spa on board a luxury cruise liner. Years later I chose one aspect of the Beauty Industry to focus on and I would definitely say that this choice has made me the happiest I have ever been and now attaining international acclaim and success just proves that your dreams can fly on magical wings, when you follow your heart.”
John was recently chosen by M.A.C International to attend a two day Spring/Summer trends presentation hosted by senior M.A.C artist Gisel Calvillo, whose techniques and talents have been admired globally by the beauty industry. This event was held in Aruba.
“The purpose of the seminar was to sensitise the Latin American and Caribbean population of global trends in makeup,” said John.
“For years this company has globally set trends on the runaways from Milan to New York City, I felt privileged to be part of it. My training started with Sacha Cosmetics, and then I went on to train with internationally renowned make- up artist Ephraim Hunte. More recently, I did a short course with International make-up Artist Danessa Myricks in the art of contouring and perfecting the skin and I learnt the art of airbrushing in Manhattan at Temptu.”
John is proficient in the art of perfecting Bridal in make-up applications and she specialises in promotional, and commerical advertising which is high in demand. While perfecting these, John decided to merge her love of writing with her make up artist skills...

“A huge thing is that my work has been recognised by M.A.C International as a make-up artist and also as a Beauty Journalist for the Trinidad Guardian’s Woman Wise Magazine. They selected me to attend their Spring/ Summer Trend Collection in Aruba during the month of March this year. Plus, they are also getting ready to feature me and my work on their International website, which is definitely amazing for me, as I would now be validated as an Internationally recognized and acclaimed Professional Make - Up Artist , which is no easy feat to achieve,” said Dianne.
While she admits that she has a lot more to learn, the mother of five is adamant about doing things with a difference and perfecting her art, adding that time has been a challenge along the way.
“Sometimes, more often than not, I have absolutely no time to devote to myself or my family,” she said.
“I feel as if I am always on the go and crave a day off at times so I can actually breathe or get a massage. But the most rewarding part of my job would be making women see their own natural beauty in a different light. Transforming faces into a work of art brings me absolute joy.”
