Twenty youths participated in Ytepp’s annual public and impromptu speaking competition and poster competition at the Chaguanas North Secondary School last Saturday.
Competitors came from the centres in north, central, south and Tobago, and spoke on the topic, Ytepp—a Beacon of Hope.
Winner of the public-speaking competition, Nikesha Prentice, who attends Ytepp’s centre at St Joseph Secondary School, spoke on Ytepp’s work in the prisons.
She highlighted Ytepp’s involvement in training male and female inmates at the Golden Grove Prison as well as youths incarcerated at the Youth Training Centre.
She said Ytepp had become a beacon of hope to those incarcerated at the institutions, and had given them an opportunity to once again find a place in society. She noted that over 162,000 people had graduated from the programme since its inception 25 years ago.
Placing second was Trisha Harewood of Signal Hill Secondary and in third place was Nicole Persia of Fyzabad Secondary.
The Impromptu Speaking competition was won by Kerrin Alleyne and the art competition by Crystal Edwards. Prizes were sponsored by Slumberers.
