Kerry-Ann Clarke of ManWomanHome and her team secured another notch in their fashion belt with the third instalment of The Collection MoDa fashion show held on Friday, November 21, in the ballroom of The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.
Experts and aficionados of the industry converged for the now calendar event on the fashion scene to see what up-and-coming designers had up their sleeves.
Opening the show was Kris Jackson - one of four Heineken Inspire winners of 2013 - who had models strutting designs fit for the modern woman. The line had a mixture of prints and solids, and except for a few pieces, the collection would be great to wear right off the runway.
For Claudia Pegus' line, each piece made its own statement. The line ranged from culottes and cocktail dresses to futuristic couture designs. The standout pieces were the cocktail dresses - vintage with a modern twist.
André Rowe was the first of the two menswear designers on the show. He described his design as "looks from the streets of Paris with a flash of the future", and the ready-to-wear garments were a breath of fresh air.
INSPIRED BY LOVE FOR BIRDS
When it came to swimsuits, Janel 'Jae' Jolly created a huge splash. Her colourful designs were well done and very appealing. Every woman, irrespective of body type, could find a piece that would be flattering for her figure.
Jolly revealed that her design colour palette and patterns were inspired by her love for birds.
"I'm a big bird fanatic, so I decided to do some research and I discovered some amazing and unusual species," she said of her inspiration.
Franz Christie, owner of the boutique Franzique, brought a tailored and confident vibe to the runway.
"My designs are usually daring but modest with lots of flow and vibrant colours to complement our tropical vibe," he noted, and that was proven on the runway. The exquisite pieces featured an interesting combination of lace and leather showing Christie's versatility.
A favourite among the women in attendance, Spokes Apparel by Dexter Huxtable brought out sexy men in very well-tailored suits. With a combination of creativity and classic sophistication, these designs are for the very confident man as he caters to men wanting something beyond the ordinary.
Pairing vivid blights with bold textures and prints was what Korto Momolu brought to the runway. Her pieces were edgy and sophisticated, catering to women with curves as well.
And finally, Slovakia-born designer Lubica brought out the dark side in her line. Her all-black line featured vegan leather, waterproof umbrella material, and vinyl. With an element of mystery, the sexy designs appeal to women of style who are not afraid of their bold side.
