New York: Team Jamaica Bickle founder Irwine Clare Sr. and actor Paul Campbell will be presented with the 'Caribbean Heritage Award' at the first annual Oracabessa Festival, slated for Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, NY on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 2014.
"Irwine has been a leader in our community for many years and has had a long-standing commitment to the promotion of our Jamaican culture in the Caribbean American community while Campbell has exemplified himself as a talented Jamaican actor" Bobby Clarke, CEO of the Oracabessa Festival and Irie Jam Radio said.
Irwine's Team Jamaica Bickle, has for the past 20 years worked with community organizations and businesses to host athletes from the Caribbean participating at the annual Penn Relay Carnival in Philadelphia.
The effort started with the provision of meals and expanded to include transportation, medical and chiropractic care. In addition, Irwine serves as a consultant to several Jamaican based organizations and is a Jamaican Diaspora Advisory Board Member, USA, NE.
He is the co-founder and managing director of Queens, New York based Caribbean Immigrant Services, Inc. (CIS), an organization founded in 1995 with the ultimate goal of mobilizing and empowering the Caribbean Diaspora in the United States.
His consistent advocacy on behalf of the Caribbean community has caused him to be a well sort after speaker. He is a frequent guest on several radio programs in the United States and the Caribbean and is the recipient of awards from Congressman Gregory Meeks, the Consul General of Jamaica, Union Jamaica Alumni Associations, Council Member Yvette Clarke and the Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association. Last year he was conferred with the Order of Distinction, Officer Class by the government of Jamaica.
Actor Paul Campbell won international acclaim for his lead role as the notorious villain priest in Dancehall Queen that hit the big screen in 1997.
He has also had leading roles in films such as The Lunatic, Shottas and the highest grossing film out of Jamaica, Third World Cop in which he portrayed a heroic cop. In addition to his roles in most Jamaican films, he has also acted on stage in Jamaica and on Broadway in New York City. Later this year, Campbell is set to appear in a must see gangster-thriller Jamaican Mafia.
Filmed in the US, the movie will feature several other Jamaicans including DJ Nardo Ranks, selector Glamour Wayne and dancehall's 'first lady' Michelle 'D'Angel' Downer. Campbell is also a painter whose works have been exhibited internationally.
Announced performers at the Oracabessa Festival are NBC’s “The Voice” season 5 winner Tessanne Chin, Beenieman, Konshens and Assassin.
