In the wake of 4 homicides over the last 72 hours , Member of Parliament for St. Thomas Eastern and Minister of Health, Dr. Fenton Ferguson is calling for more action from Divisional Officers and the Commissioner of Police. While expressing alarm he is urging the Police High Command to come up with a workable plan.
" .... The recent upsurge in criminality and violent crimes in my constituency is cause for concern. I am calling on Divisional Officers and the Commissioner of Police to execute a workable plan to stem the scourge of violence and criminality in my constituency of Eastern St. Thomas. I will also be doing everything I can to intensify the fight against criminality in all its manifestations.
The latest manifestation is the 4 homicides which have occurred within the last 72 hours.
I am deeply saddened and express condolences to the families and friends of the victims."
Dr. Ferguson also called on the people of St. Thomas Eastern to do their part in stemming criminality.
"I firmly believe that the well thinking law abiding residents of Eastern St. Thomas will not allow their communities and by extension their country to be taken over by the few law breakers. I therefore call on you to become protectors of your community by not shielding criminals or providing a safe haven for them."
Dr. Ferguson is emphasizing that the upsurge in crime and violence can only be halted through strong stakeholder resolve and involvement.
