AFP PHOTO HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) -- The Royal Ballet’s perfect performance of Manon, a classic of the 20th century, at the Karl Marx Theater in Havana, was rewarded by a standing ovation from the public. Cuba's leading dancer Carlos Acosta, invited by the prestigious British company, and Spanish Prima Ballerina Tamara Rojo took on the leading roles of Kenneth MacMillan’s Manon, showing their maturity and virtuosity in the perfection of their moves and the harmonic interrelation in between them. This, added to the magnificent interpretation of the rest of the dancers, the music, stage and costume designs, and the good-management of lighting throughout the whole piece made the performance an unforgettable moment for Cuban ballet-lovers. The special performance of Great Britain’s most prestigious ballet company was attended by Cuban Culture Minister Abel Prieto, founders of the Cuban National Ballet Company Alicia and Fernando Alonso, and Director of The Royal Ballet Monica Mason, as well as other Cuban personalities. The music written by Jules Massenet was beautifully interpreted by the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Martin Yates. A big screen was placed outside the theater where the performance was shown to give more people the opportunity to enjoy the presence of The Royal Ballet in Cuba. The company was due to repeat its performance of Manon at the Karl Marx Theater on Sunday night to close its program in the island.
