The RADA's team has determined to create an interactive exposition display that will, seamlessly integrate the organisation's mandate People Land and Opportunities, specifically as it relates to farming.
The vision was solidified by Principal Field Services Director for RADA Janette Lawrence , who with other senior managers of the organisation have devised a comprehensive interactive show, that should under this year's Denbigh's overall focus; on opportunities in Agriculture, using technologies - see RADA supporters being even more satisfied than they normally are by the the organisation's work at the annual exposition.
According to Ms. Chung, "instead of setting up our usually wonderful and comprehensive displays, being mainly viewing opportunities - we will be asking patrons at this year's exposition to join in the set-ups by planting backyard gardens, which we will have set up, learning to use the essential farm tools of the process, even for the braver patrons learning to drive with specialised assistance and all safety processes observed; some of the farm vehicles we use".
There will be many other fun filled patron focused interactive farm learning experiences as well.
This year instead of replicating our displays, from booth to booth - we have chosen central themes, that will be the nucleus around which related satellite displays; will be crafted and it is the outflow of these themes... that will help us illustrate how RADA services the farmers. Particularly using modern and contemporary methods.
This aspect, is especially important to RADA... as we are quickening our technological and advanced communication mechanisms that we offer to the over 100-thousand farmers we serve - to sustain the growth that Agriculture has been logging and continues to log.
According to RADA Chief Executive Officer Al Powell RADA must do all it can to sustain the upward trending of the sector, a vital part of the nation's GDP and general development.
We have chosen the Ackee as our central fruit crop and out of this we will be demonstrating live agri-processing techniques, the reaping process, we will be having culinary displays as to the many non-traditional Ackee preparations that can be yielded also; in order to make the RADA booth fans, feel even more compelled to come and see us as they do each year.
We will be looking at the important processes of poison prevention, as it relates to the Ackee as well, a very topical area especially after the several incidents of this unfortunate Ackee poisoning circumstances earlier this year. We see the needs and fill them.
Chung says, "the thing is even while we chose the Ackee as our main food crop, the main idea is that all processes shown with this fruit are relatable to most all other fruit crops, with a certain specification changes for the particular fruit tree".
Ms. Chung says, "you see RADA wants to be really relevant when we chose the areas that we help people learn about, especially at this annual staple of the nation's exposition landscape - that is Denbigh 2011.
RADA will also be setting up live demonstrations with multimedia effects to show some of our more modern processes, such as how our weather station programmes advance the efficiency of the farmers we serve.
Our Agricultural Disaster Risk Management ADRM plan - will also be a vital part of our show - with efforts now underway to create a multi-dimensional Global Positioning System (GPS) model; that will actually demonstrate how these pieces of equipment feature into the farming culture of Jamaica. Always with a view to making the farming more effective.
Chung says, " get this idea out of your mind of Farming being this machete and pick axe stick only venture - it is modern sexy and when done with the proper techniques quite financially rewarding".
Our information technology booth will not just display some of our more effective tools like text messaging to help farmers mitigate against disaster impacts, but also with our thrust being to register all farmers to the RADA e-database, to serve them better and provide more benefits - we will be mounting an extra aggressive registration drive at Denbigh ...to get much more farmers into the database than we normally do.
Ms. Chung says "we will be offering prizes to those who come and register, such a valuable farm equipment. And its is more profound than just that a RADA registered farmer has been proven empirically to be a better performing farmer. If you are not in our records system - how can we help you access all the services and benefits we have to give?"
RADA usually does well at this exposition, but this year patrons will see us stepping up our programmes several notches - to ensure learning and teaching in meaningful, lasting way.
