For just a few precious seconds, Prince Harry could say that he was the world’s fastest man. Shortly after 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the prince squared off against 25-year-old Olympic champion Usain Bolt in a staged race to see who was truly the world’s fastest man.
“A few people have said I should let you win,” Bolt joked. His Royal Highness responded, “Well, I was in my prime when I was 25 (years old)!”
Sporting a track suit in traditional green/yellow/black Jamaican colors, Prince Harry lined up next to Bolt on the track. But before the race officially started, the prince sprinted towards the finish line before the three-time gold medalist Bolt even knew what was happening! It was an entertaining start to the day and a sign of exciting things to come, as the prince had a memorable day visiting several sites in the Jamaican capital of Kingston.
Following his meeting with Bolt and other young track-and-field athletes at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Prince Harry participated in a plaque unveiling at the school’s Law Faculty facility before heading to Bustamante Hospital for Children. At Bustamante, the prince spent nearly an hour interacting with the children, and even exchanged several moments of laughter with music superstar Shaggy, who also greeted him at the hospital.
The next stop on the prince’s journey was Devon House, where he exchanged warm pleasantries with Prime Minister the Hon. Portia Simpson Miller prior to sitting down for lunch in the 19th-century Georgian-style mansion. Shortly thereafter, His Royal Highness jumped into his black Range Rover and headed to RISE Life Management Services, which is a learning facility for young people in downtown Kingston. While there, he visited with faculty and was even greeted by the widow of reggae legend Bob Marley. And, before the day was out, he took part in a celebratory show at RISE marking his historic arrival on the Island. The prince even showed a few dance moves to an appreciative crowd.
Prince Harry will be in Jamaica for two more days on behalf of the Diamond Jubilee celebration for his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, who is marking her 60 years on the throne.
