Lawyer charged with murder

An attorney-at-law was last week charged with murder, illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition after ballistic tests revealed that a bullet which killed a prowler was fired from his licensed firearm. Charged is 63-year-old Phoebe Lawrence, an attorney-at-law of a Daisy Avenue, Mona, address. Reports are that about 9:10 a.m., residents of Carnation Way, Kingston 6, heard explosions and called the police. The now deceased man was seen lying on the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was being treated, but succumbed to his injuries on July 17. ballistic testing The police, acting on information, seized the .38 Taurus revolver belonging to the lawyer and took it to the lab for ballistic testing. Comparisons were made with the bullet fragment taken from the deceased man's body. The police claim that the bullet found in the man's body was fired from the barrel of the lawyer's .38 revolver. It is alleged that when he was initially questioned by investigators, the accused said he had not heard or seen anything related to the shooting. A question-and-answer session was conducted with the attorney on July 30 and he was charged. He is expected to be brought before the court sometime this week. http://www.jamaica-star.com/thestar/20090804/news/news4.html
