 Kingston, Jamaica - Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) is deeply disturbed by the Sunday Gleaner’s front page news story entitled “Death Squads” and calls for a swift and thorough investigation into the allegations of police extra-judicial killings being authorised by senior police officers.

JFJ urges the:

1.      Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) to investigate the allegations raised in the article;

2.      Government to provide the resources that INDECOM needs to conduct this special investigation;

3.      Police High Command to do its duty and conduct its own investigations into the allegations, and ensure full co-operation with the INDECOM investigation.   It is not enough simply to dismiss these allegations of summary execution by the JCF out of hand. It must seek to clear the name of the JCF through this path, as these allegations seriously damage any prospects of getting the trust of the society which is needed for the control of crime.
