Freedom Bay-Saint Lucia development previews at the London Hilton

It was an international celebrity list of invitees that gathered last week at the Hilton Hotel London to be the first to preview the eagerly anticipated five star ‘eco-luxury’ villa resort at Malgretoute, Soufriere. Among the guests were Ministers of the Saint Lucia Government, with Former US President Bill Clinton as guest of honour. Other celebrities included legendary broadcaster Sir David Frost, Dragon Den star James Caan, singer Paul Young, Nancy Dell’Olio to name a few. The high profile event, which doubled as a major charity fundraiser, was attended by 1000 invited guests. Hosted by the developer Robert Whitton and Caribbean Operations CEO Saint Lucian Wayne Girard in London, the event took place one week ahead of World Travel Market, a high profile trade show and influential forum on the annual calendar of the global travel and hospitality industry. Resort Designers, Whitton International, are moving apace with plans to commence construction, having gained full planning consent. Freedom Bay will be differentiated by its strong Eco friendly aesthetic and it’s positioning as an escape for the celebrity and elite travellers segment of the tourist market. Among its features will be a spectacular restaurant and beach bar facility, state of the art spa and wellness centre, detached hotel villas on the beach and attached to the Cliffside as well as large exclusive private villas all with amazing views of the Caribbean Sea and the Pitons. Wayne Girard, the youngest St Lucian national to hold the position of CEO in charge of a major development project on the island, said: “With this luxury and iconic development within a World Heritage site dominated by Saint Lucia’s world famous Pitons, we have the opportunity to promote and augment this amazing natural asset of ours, through exacting eco-friendly standards in construction and design, while opening up Saint Lucia to a new lucrative market and creating prosperity and opportunities for St Lucians.” By the end of the evening USD325,000 was raised by the Whitton Group for charity, while anticipation escalated for what will be a unique tourism product on Saint Lucia. “We will bring that same sense of social responsibility to the Saint Lucian community, and fully participate in social development, in support of the government and people of Saint Lucia,” assured Developer Robert Whitton. The Whitton Investment Group, with offices in Prague, London, Bahrain and Castries, is an international property development and investment company with interests around the world, and is a recognised name in Shopping centre, Hotel, Residential and Resort developments. The Saint Lucia sod turning is planned for early 2010.
