A very strong second 50 meters propelled Hydel High’s Alliah Baker as she produced a lifetime best in the final of the Class One girls’ 100 metres, stopping the clock at 11.34 seconds at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium tonight. Edwin Allen High’s Jounee Armstrong took the silver medal with 11.52 seconds, while Wolmer’s Girls’ School’s Mikayla Gardener completed the placings in 11.59.
This was just one of the main higlights on Day 2 of the annual Issa Grace Kennedy Boys & Girls Athletic Championships and the National Stadium in Kingston , Jamaica.
Not to be outdone, Excelsior High’s Damor Miller produced a well timed run to take the Boys Class 1 100 Meters. Miller won the gold medal in 10.31 seconds, with Calabar High’s Khamani Gordon taking silver in 10.37, while Kingston College’s Yourie Lawrence Clarke clocked 10.45 to take the bronze.
Kingston College’s Nyrone Wade lowered his personal best to 10.43 seconds as he struck gold in the Class Two boys’ 100 metres at the ongoing ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championship at the National Stadium tonight.
Excelsior’s Malike Nugent took silver in 10.52 seconds, while Herbert Morrison’s Tavaine Stewart grabbed the bronze medal with 10.55.
Wolmers Class 3 Boy Mario Ross won his race in fine style improving on his semi-final time and sends a clear warning of how high his ceiling will be as he progresses through High School. With a very identifiable style with flailing arms he distanced himself from the rest in a burst in the last 25 meters.
In the Girls Shot Putt St. Jago High’s Kimeka Smith was in record-breaking form to win the gold medal in the Class Two girls’ shot put at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium today. Smith, with her second attempt, covered a distance of 16.44 metres to erase the old mark of 15.99 metres, which Danielle Sloley of Immaculate Conception High set in 2018.
