Maia Chung-Smith, managing director of The Maia Chung Autism and Disabilities Foundation (MCADF) and Autism and Disabilities Ambassador 14-year-old Sicourney Jackson of the Queens High School for Girls, share a hug after Chung-Smith hands over to Sicourney one of her many prizes — the Super Plus Food Stores Autism and Disabilities Ambassadors CSEC Scholarship valued at $15,000, during the Autism and Disabilities Awards Banquet held recently at the Wyndham Kingston.
Sicourney made history as the youngest winner of the yearly competition. She walked away with approximately half a million dollars in prizes from the contest. She won an AOC Breeze handheld computer from One Stop Computers (OSC), a Compaq Presario laptop from the Golden Child Music Group, the Mavis Bank Coffee Factory Autism and Disabilities Ambassadors CSEC Scholarship valued at $25,000, the Super Plus Food Stores Autism and Disabilities CSEC $15,000 dollar scholarship and the Lions Club of Mona Autism and Disabilities Ambassadors Award and various trophies from Jablum and Mavis Bank Coffee Factory.
Her victory also netted a new computer for the Queens High School for girls computer lab, to assist with their information technology syllabus from telecomms provider LIME, and a cash incentive of $5,000 as well as a trophy for her mentor teacher for the competition Moyen Campbell.
The inaugural Autism and Disabilities Banquet fully sponsored by the Wyndham Kingston was valued at roughly a quarter of million in investment.
Sicourney plans to be a teacher and has many plans for her year of reigning Ambassador into 2013.
