Come Thursday January 23-2014 the commissioning of the Yallahs Irrigation System and launch of the Yallahs Agro-Park, in Yallahs St. Thomas Jamaica; will be carried out by Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller.
The event is slated to take place at the Yallahs Irrigation Specially Authorized Society located in the parish of St. Thomas.
The official ceremony get underway at 2:00 p.m. Prime Minister, Portia Simpson Miller, will commission into operation, the Yallahs Irrigation System, constructed by the National Irrigation Commission Limited (NIC), as well as officially launch the Agro-Park located in St. Thomas.
The Yallahs Irrigation System falls under Phase one of the irrigation development project in St. Thomas and will benefit over 300 farmers, spread across 245 irrigable hectares of land.
It is one of five projects spearheaded by the NIC under the National Irrigation Development Programme (NIDP). Following the commissioning and launch ceremony, the Prime Minister will tour the Yallahs Agro-Park, led by the Agro Investment Corporation (AIC).
The development of Agro-Parks, including Plantain Garden River, Ebony Park/Spring Plain, Hill Run, New Forest/Duff House and Amity Hall, is spearheaded by the AIC. The NIC and the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), provides the relevant technical support as it relates to irrigation and agronomy, respectively.
