The Community of Choiseul has been deeply involved in community carnivals for more than two decades. Among their features have been the calypso show and popular j’ouvert. In 2001, Choiseul took a giant leap by organizing their very own Carnival queen pageant, which was a huge success. Since then the community has not looked back, and the pageant has become their hallmark. Choiseul’s carnival achievements to date have been very encouraging with Miss Shernaya Stephen, Choiseul’s Queen in 2002 going on to win the National Carnival Queen Contest in 2003. This evening (July 15) from 8pm the 2009 edition of the Choiseul Carnival Queen pageant will be held at D’andres. It will be hosted by MC Donnerville and will feature six contestants representing various communities in Choiseul. They are Anika Jean— Morne Sion, Leana Joseph— Saltibus, Suelanie James— Choiseul Village, Christal DeCain—Roblot, Kezia Stephane—Roblot and Rachel Busette—Morne Jacques. The ladies will be appearing in their opening number, costume, and evening wear and of course, the interview segment. The new Miss Choiseul is expected to be crowned by the 2008 carnival queen of Choiseul Sharalin Felix.
