Dudley, who was seventh last year with 7.06m, could only muster a best of 6.72m (3.6 mps) and finished 16th overall. However, his teammate Safin Willis leapt 7.32m (3.1 mps) from Flight Two, while favourite Wayne Pinnock of KC easily qualified with one jump of 7.32m (4.7 mps) from Flight One. KC's Shaquille Lowe left it late on his third and final jump to surpass the qualifying mark of 7.00m with a jump of 7.03.
