A group of final-year students studying entertainment and events management at the Vocational Training and Development Institute will today stage a concert which is aimed at increasing autism awareness.

The event will be held at Morris Meadows in Portmore, St Catherine, starting 2 p.m. and will run until 7 p.m.

The organisers say the event will entail a kiddies village with bounceabout, face-painting, balloon art and a concert featuring several prominent artistes who have agreed to volunteer.

Increasing awareness

"The mission for this charity concert is to increase public awareness on the various challenges that persons with autism and disabilities face, to highlight that persons can assist these individuals and to provide a cash donation from the proceeds of the concert," the organisers say.

Autism has become the single-greatest disability affecting children, and families struggle to meet their needs. Autism is the result of a neurological disorder which affects the way the brain functions.
