Anguilla Celebration in New York

During the recently concluded Caribbean Week in New York, a slice of Anguilla was brought to New York by way of a rooftop celebration at the city’s meat packing district in downtown Manhattan. The Gansevoort Hotel elegant rooftop garden was transformed into Anguilla’s Dune Preserve complete with a stellar performance by the Dune’s creator Anguilla’s own musical treasure Bankie Banx. Officials from the government and Anguilla Tourist Board, along with repre­sentatives of the major resorts, the media, tour operators and special guests, all gathered to celebrate the island. The evening started with cocktails and a personal meet and greet with several representatives from the island’s great hotels. This was followed by an announcement to launch their new website and the island’s special summer offerings at every accom­modation category as well as the launch of their accessible new website. An island wide promotion of restaurants and accommodation savings were also announ­ced.

Tourism officials including the Director of Tourism Donna Banks and Minister of Tourism Victor A. Banks participated in the evening formal presentation Several buffet stations were set up where samples from some top chefs from Anguilla, presented a taste of what to expect once you get on the island. Among the chefs present was Dale Carty, a award winning chef of Tasty Restaurant where he spe­cializes in sophisticated West Indian cuisine. At just 16 miles long and 3 miles wide, Anguilla is known for it’s world class cuisine, boasting one the Caribbean’s most acclaimed dining scenes. For the summer season, An­gui­lla’s restaurants are hosting the popular Resta­urant Week promotions and welcoming summer guests with special pricing for three course meals during the entire season. There are over 85 fine dining and local restaurants on island and the cuisine run the gamut from exotic West Indian cuisine to casual beach front. Anguilla has truly become a epicurean’s delight where Caribbean flavors have been fused with international cuisine to create a wide range of dishes. Seafood is a big deal on Anguillan menus, with local crayfish and whole lobster or grilled Snapper, Swordfish and Mahi Mahi among the specialities. Anguilla’s accommodation options are many. The island is predominantly associated with its world class hotels and luxury villas.
