NERHA (North East Regional Health Authority) to host Mental Health conference on May 9, 2014 Casa Maria Hotel in Port Maria, St. Mary
A brief presentation will be given by Autism Advocate Maia Chung on Tips for Coping with Autism from a parent perspective.
The event is being staged in order to raise public awareness of children’s mental health issues, the NERHA Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), otherwise called the Child Guidance Clinic, is hosting a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Conference.
It is to be held on Friday May 9, 2014 from 8:30am – 3pm under the theme: “Tek care o’ di yutes!” Their voice and emotions count.
The NERHA CAMHS which covers St Ann, St Mary and Portland has become increasingly concerned about the emotional and behavioural challenges, abuse and family dysfunction affecting the youth in our region.
NERHA seeks to increase the awareness that parents/guardians, teachers, medical personnel and other caregivers have of these issues. We hope to achieve this through participatory, practical means facilitated by renowned experts in the field.
According to Ms. Chung May is child's month and parents teachers and the whole Jamaican adult community can use this, special focus time to learn more about helping the mentally challenged Jamaican child.
She added, "I hope with such advanced notice that parents from all over the country can come and take part in this very crucial intervention by NERHA".
