Sasha “Scarlett” Hostyn, among the most successful women in professional esports, just won her latest tournament. Guinness World Records certified the Canadian pro as competitive gaming’s highest earning female player last 2016, having won over $200,000 during her career.Winning the IEM, however, is undoubtedly an even bigger milestone. Not only is this the 1st competition to become held in collaboration using the International Olympic Committee (it had been even held inside same area since the upcoming Winter Olympics), but IEM now boasts StarCraft 2’s first female player to win to begin with.
It’s especially exciting when factoring for the reason that Scarlett was the only real woman to compete in 2010, knowning that she was nearly disqualified in the tournament overall; a last-minute change enabled her to sign up after losing out throughout the North American qualifiers in December.

Last year’s StarCraft 2 World Championship Series finals came having a $280,000 prize because of its first-place winner, as an example. But as competitive gaming carries on slowly diversify its player base in the event it comes to gender identity, Scarlett’s top spot within the podium seems like the most important win here.
