For Pure Fun, Visit Grenada, The Spice of the Caribbean

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, Saturday January 27, 2018 – We’re just a few days into the New Year and already Grenada, the Spice of the Caribbean, is buzzing with many fun activities to experience. Located in the Windward Islands, south west of Barbados, this charming destination consists of the main island Grenada along with the smaller Carriacou and Petite Martinique. With a size of just 133 square miles you can go from a pristine white sand beach to a refreshing waterfall or our world famous Underwater Sculpture Park in just minutes.

Grenadians passion for the sea is still very evident in their everyday lives through activities such as fishing and sailing. Fortunately, the first two months of 2018 hold many opportunities to experience this passion.  The 49th annual Budget Marine Spice Island Billfish Tournament (SIBT) is the Southern Caribbean’s premier sport fishing event held in Grenada’s capital city St. George’s. Participants who come from all over the world will enjoy three days of fishing during the tournament of competitive fishing, sportsmanship and festivity. In 2018, the tournament runs from January 24-28. For more information on how to register for this event visit www.sibt.gd

The Island Water World Grenada Sailing Week combines the warmth and charm of Grenada with great sailing conditions to create this annual event. It kicks off on January 29 and concludes February 3, 2018.  The event features a welcome party, two days of racing on the south coast, a lay day, then two more days of racing on the calmer waters of the west coast. Just picture an electric atmosphere of competitive sailing, music, food and friendly, warm people on Pure Grenada’s famous Grand Anse Beach. That’s exactly what the annual Grenada Sailing Festival Workboat Regatta offers, February 3-4, 2018. The event attracts sailors from various communities throughout Pure Grenada, plus the sister islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique; communities with a strong sailing and boat building heritage. The Regatta, which features colourful boats, generates tremendous community support for the participating crews. You can enjoy the races, while connecting with locals and relish authentic spice infused cuisine. For information visit www.grenadasailingfestival.com

After enjoying these sailing events, switch gears to one of merriment and revelry for the first Carnival festival that Pure Grenada has to offer. It takes place on Sister Isle Carriacou February 12-13. The pomp, splendor and colour of Carriacou’s Carnival is made an even richer experience when complemented by its deep traditional roots. The festival encompasses wonderfully expressive street dances, island music, the Jab Jab and even the authentic Shakespeare Mas. This masquerade involves men dressed in bright coloured costumes engaging in the recitation of Shakespeare verses hoping not to fumble on their lines otherwise surrendering to a stroke of their opponent’s stick.
